Stories that inspire
The Foundation of Greater Montréal supports hundreds of community organizations in every sector. Their work enhances the well-being of the entire community, including that of its most vulnerable individuals. All our gratitude goes out to the men and women who work day in and day out to bring a better quality of life to all.
Our thanks go as well to FGM donors and fund creators, whose philanthropic efforts bring to life the values they embody: solidarity, generosity and community engagement. It is through their commitment that the Foundation and its partner organizations can have a real impact on the well-being of Greater Montréal’s population. Here are some of their stories.
Doctors of the World
Doctors of the World is an independent international organization, present in 78 countries and established in Canada since 1996. Its mission is to offer, and broaden access to, health care for marginalized and vulnerable people. The Foundation of Greater Montréal is proud to have supported Doctors of the World since 2014, through the Fondation Pierre Chamberland and the Chamandy Foundation Funds, but also via its own Community Initiatives Program and selected special projects. FGM has thus been able to help maintain some major initiatives, such as the clinic for migrants with precarious status. Vulnerable individuals who are not covered by…
Green Shield Canada Community Impact Funds
In December 2020, the Foundation of Greater Montréal (FGM) and Green Shield Canada (GSC) announced a partnership aimed at increasing access to mental health care and dental care in the community. To make this happen, Green Shield Canada, via its Social Impact Program, created two GSC Community Impact Funds at FGM. One has a two-year term, and the other is an in-perpetuity fund. Over the next two years, the funds will support, in particular, services to the community offered by McGill’s Faculty of Dentistry, which provides free or reduced-cost dental care to vulnerable individuals, at fixed locations and mobile clinics.…
The Fonds de pérennité Nouvel Horizon de Duverger
The Nouvel Horizon de Duverger Project was started by the Beaugé family of Laval, with friends from other parts of Quebec. Working with the residents of the village of Duverger (Miragoâne region, Haïti), they wanted to build an elementary school. The goal was to enable children in the village to have better access to education. The project was realized with the help of the Fondation QHASUQ, and its successful completion meant that the school could open its doors to its first students in September of 2013. In the fall of 2020, Mr. Rodrigue Baugé turned to the Foundation of Greater…
Loisirs et Répit Sans Limites
Loisirs et Répit Sans Limites (Leisure and Rest Without Limits) was founded in Boucherville in 1986. It is an organization that serves children, youth and adults living with an intellectual disability or an autism spectrum disorder, and their parents. The association focuses on the development and integration into the community of young people. It also provides an environment where a sense of respect for differences leads to fulfilment and growth for all. Its services include leisure activities, and opportunities for socialization that are stimulating and suited to children. In doing so, it also offers some respite for families. Seeking to…
Service d’aide à l’emploi de l’Est
Created in 1983, the Service d’aide à l’emploi de l’Est (SAEE) is a non-profit organization that aims to make individuals more employable. Situated in the East End of Montreal, it offers its services to the entire Greater Montreal community. It works with individuals who are unemployed or whose employment status is precarious, workers who are seeking new challenges or a career change, and businesses. Its clientele is mainly youth, racialized communities, individuals living below the poverty line and those with a criminal past, who are seeking employment. Their "Garder le cap" (Stay the course) project, which was the recipient of a…
Centre communautaire multi-ethnique de Montréal-Nord
The Centre communautaire multi-ethnique de Montréal-Nord fosters comprehension, dialogue and rapprochement between members of the cultural communities and those who populate their new home. In particular, it offers food aid services, translation, francization classes, and participation for its members in sociocultural activities. It offers services to adults, but also encourages young people to get more involved in community activities, and works as well to help break down the isolation of Montreal North’s seniors. Seeing vulnerable individuals and families facing growing needs during the pandemic, the Centre submitted a project proposal in phase 2 of the ECSF. The project was funded…
