City Farm School

The City Farm School (CFS) project approaches environmental education as a collective and interactive experience with its own green byproducts. The original concept of City Farm School was its eight-month long internship course, run out of the Concordia Greenhouse and the Loyola Farm. In the winter months, we begin the program for 20-30 interns, running roughly from March until October. This internship aims to create learning spaces which allow for innovation and community engagement to flourish. We use a series of day long workshops throughout the season to educate students on concepts related to agriculture, including fertility & pest management, soil science, seedling care, crop rotation, etc. To this end, CFS works to prepare our interns to be autonomous in the cultivation of their own produce and to green the city spaces that surround them. Partnerships exist across the city because our internship requires students to create a workshop for the community and stage it for free. This has spawned partnerships with organizations like Alternatives, Communiterre, Alternatives Rooftop Garden Project, CRAPAUD, Bouffe Action, Greening Duluth, SOCENV and more.
