Katharine A. Pearson, 1955-2008
It is with great sadness that we announce news of Katharine Pearson’s death. The FGM has lost a very devoted good friend. She died on May 24th after a battle with cancer surrounded in the last few weeks by family and loved ones. Katharine was senior program director at the J.W. McConnell Family Foundation since 1996 and previously worked with Oxfam-Canada on its Central America programs. The two links below describe her work with these two organizations.
The FGM was so fortunate to have Katharine join the FGM Grants Committee upon its creation in 2002. She brought so many strengths and qualities to the table: intelligence, passion and warmth, superb analytical skills, a deep understanding and appreciation of the community’s most dynamic and innovative elements to address some of society’s most complex issues.
Her spirit of generosity and collaboration guided and inspired us. Even as she battled cancer over the past few months, she found the energy to contribute to our most recent granting cycle. We have always been touched by her devotion to the mission and the development of the Foundation of Greater Montreal. She connected so deeply with what we are building for the community and she will be so missed by us all.
Presently we are considering ways the FGM can honour in a permanent way Katharine’s extraordinary contribution to the FGM and to the Montreal community. We will keep you informed as details of this initiative emerge.
On behalf of the FGM’s Board members, volunteers and staff we extend our deepest sympathies to Katharine’s family.
