PRESS RELEASE - The Foundation of Greater Montreal Mourns the Loss of one of its Founders, Marcel Côté
Montreal, May 26, 2014 – On behalf of the Foundation of Greater Montreal’s (FGM) Board of Directors and its staff, Mr. Richard W. Pound, Chairman of the Board of Directors, wishes to extend his heartfelt condolences to Marcel Côté’s family, colleagues and many friends. Mr. Côté was a man of compassion and of action who greatly influenced the development of his community. As one of the FGM’s founding members, Marcel Côté was a member its Board of Directors for many years, including its Chair between 2009 and 2011.
Mr. Pound had this to share : “Those who were fortunate enough to know him or work with him will attest that Mr. Côté undertook everything he did with boundless energy, intelligence and a deep sense of commitment. With his passing, the FGM loses one of its most ardent ambassadors; members of the Board of Directors lose a friend and a source of inspiration; and the Montreal region loses one of its most brilliant supporters.”
The FGM’s President and Chief Executive Officer Yvan Gauthier added that “Marcel Côté, the philanthropist, leaves us an important legacy in his vision of a philanthropy that centers on the well-being of all citizens through integrated social, cultural and environmental action. He also showed his leadership as a philanthropist by generously giving to the causes he believed in. He was one of the first to create a community fund with the FGM, the Suzanne Trépanier-Côté Fund in memory of his mother. For his important contribution to the FGM and to the Greater Montreal community as a whole, we pay homage today to Marcel Côté.”
