A word from FGM – Fall 2025
A quarter of a century ago, a group of citizens and organizations banded together to grant Montreal a community foundation, built by and for the people of our city. Our 25th anniversary offers a prime occasion for introspection: Where are we now? Let’s use this moment to take stock of how far we’ve come.
As of December 31, 2024, FGM held more than $480 million in assets under management, boasted a 16.1% gross rate of return, and managed 800 funds. Since our creation, we have granted over $200 million to community organizations and initiatives in Greater Montreal.
But FGM is more than numbers—we are bound by a spirit of solidarity. Our foundation is open, accessible, and inclusive. We provide a space where people from all walks of life can pool their resources, talents, and ideas to support our communities.
We strive to make our philanthropic practices transformative and human-centred. We believe in the power of communities, as well as in their capacity to develop and implement fair, sustainable, and innovative responses to our collective challenges. We stand not just for our communities but with them: we listen, offer support, and maintain an open dialogue.
25 years of transforming philanthropy
Our goal is not merely to collect, grow, and distribute money. The Foundation is a committed ally devoted to strengthening relationships, amplifying local voices, and nurturing our collective capacity for action.
As we mark our 25th anniversary, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our original founders and pioneers, our fund creators, and our community partners, as well as all current and former board members and staff for their contributions.
It is thanks to all of you that we’re celebrating 25 years of existence with such brio. Thank you for believing in our mission and for your ongoing support in this collective project.
We look forward to writing our next chapter with you!
