The Moving Forward With Care program will run up to three times per month. At each session, youth will come together to share a meal, check-in, and meet with staff. After the meal, participants will shift into either individual or group programming. Structure of programming will change each session, and include: unstructured peer support time with a counselor on-site as needed, workshops and cooking classes, guest speakers, visits to community partners. 60% of youth coming out of care end up underhoused or homeless. MFWC will work directly with youth themselves, employees of the care system, the judicial system, and mental health practitioners to ensure that service provision to care leavers will fully address their needs. Youth participants will be the ones choosing their programming. Once a month, participants will sit with program staff to determine programming for the following weeks. While program staff will propose ideas, MFWC will largely be run by the youth themselves, based on: skills they want to expand, their specific concerns about leaving care, and their mental health needs.
