A fundamental part of the Foundation of Greater Montréal’s mission is the dissemination of reliable data about our community. Most notably via its Vital Signs of Greater Montreal series of reports, inaugurated in 2006, FGM has in effect taken on a mission to inform, bring together and mobilize the community on the most important issues facing it. By gathering and disseminating contextualized and reliable data that track the evolution of multiple facets of quality of life on our territory, we seek to stimulate reflection and discussion, as well as the search for and implementation of solutions that are appropriate for the issues facing it.
In that spirit, FGM joined forces in 2022 with members of the G15+ collective, and several other partners, to launch the Indicators of Well-Being in Quebec initiative. The Indicators is a dashboard that aggregates a multitude of data relating to economic, social and environmental realities province-wide. The result of a vast co-construction effort bringing together actors from all sectors, the Indicators of Well-Being is also a call to build a more just, prosperous, inclusive and green society, where people’s well-being is at the core of our decisions.
This year, the Foundation is proud to be teaming up with the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal and 20 or so other partners to launch the Indicateurs vitaux du Grand Montréal, an open platform that displays strategic and reliable data on the development of complete and sustainable living environments and on the quality of life in Greater Montreal. This new tool will help improve our understanding of the territory we all share, the challenges we collectively face, and the solutions to be implemented in order to properly respond to them.
Especially worth a look is the platform’s dynamic map, which you can use to visualize the data through a variety of geographic perspectives. We hope that access to these data, which will regularly be updated by the expert team at the Observatoire Grand Montréal, will assist leaders in all sectors of our community in making informed decisions. And make sure to stay tuned, because new indicators will be added over the coming months.
Until then, the Foundation’s team wishes you a great start to the fall season. We’ll be in touch soon!
