Project: The project is a 10 week program offered 4 times per year for children 2 – 5 years to better prepare both the children and parents/caregivers for the next stage, school. Activities: The program would consist of workshops based on the 5 domains of global development (language, social, cognitive, emotional development and fine & gross motor skills) through activities that: build self-esteem and confidence, promote patience, taking turns, transitions, sharing, social skills. Means: This is achieved through literacy based activities, songs, games, arts & crafts, creative thinking, science experiments, cooking, methods to develop fine & gross motor skills (eg. drawing/painting, using scissors, physical activities) modeling behaviour (for children & parents), and peer learning. Additional Benefits: Also, the program gives the opportunity for parents to network and share experiences and concerns. In each session the parent will learn about their child’s development, and participate in exercises and activities geared towards stimulating their child’s global development to prepare them for school programs. They will also leave with written resources to support their learning of the day.
