The goal of this project is to ensure the children at O3 are school ready, and to provide the parents with the tools to prepare their children for school. These goals will be achieved using a two-pronged approach. First, as a part of our parenting series, we will host a series of 4 workshops with parents to educate them about the fundamentals of school readiness: (i) defining it, (ii) equipping them with the vocabulary (e.g., literacy, numeracy, phonics), (iii) equipping with the tools to prepare their children to be school ready, (iv) helping them to understand the school system and their role as parents. Second, to reinforce what the parents have learned during the workshops, an educator will go into the home 6 – 8 times to practice the tools with the parent and child. Prior to our workshops, we offer a full meal for parents and children. During the workshop, we provide childcare in our playroom, animated by a certified early childcare worker. We anticipate running this program twice throughout the year, once in the fall and once in the spring.
