Creation of the Jean E. Douville Bursaries in four Montreal institutions

Highlights

• Established in perpetuity, the Jean E. Douville Bursaries, which will total $60,000 annually, will be awarded to students from Concordia University, HEC Montréal, McGill University and Université de Montréal.
• Each year, nine scholarships of $5,000 each will be distributed to three finance students from Concordia, HEC Montréal and McGill.
• As well, a $15,000 scholarship will be awarded every year to a student-researcher in mental health at Université de Montréal.

Montreal, May 6, 2019 – Jean E. Douville announced last week the creation of the Jean E. Douville Bursaries by the Fonds Fondation Jean E. et Lucille Douville at the Foundation of Greater Montréal (FGM). On hand for the announcement were representatives from the four Montréal universities where they will be distributed each year.

“I’m very pleased to support these four major Montréal institutions and their students,” said Mr. Douville. “I consider it important to help further the community’s development, and going through our universities is one of the best ways to do that. I hope these scholarships will help the recipients succeed in their studies and in their lives.”

Established in perpetuity and awarded every year, the Jean E. Douville Bursaries will support 10 students from the four institutions. “We thank Mr. and Mrs. Douville for entrusting us with the management of their fund, and we are very proud to collaborate in the creation of these scholarships, which will support academic excellence,” added FGM President and CEO Yvan Gauthier.

Each year, three finance students from Concordia, HEC Montréal and McGill will receive a $5,000 scholarship, for a total of nine scholarships. In addition, a student-researcher in mental health at Université de Montréal will be selected for a $15,000 bursary.

“Thanks to this recurrent gift, three of our students will benefit from substantial financial support every year. We are thrilled and we thank Mr. Douville for his commitment to the community,” stated Dr. Mary Perri, Senior Director of Academic and Student Affairs at Concordia University’s John Molson School of Business.

“We’d like to thank Mr. Douville for this support, which will provide the recipients with invaluable assistance. We are very grateful and look forward to distributing the first Jean E. Douville Bursaries, which hopefully will pave the way for others,” said Johanne Turbide, Secretary General of HEC Montréal.

“Our institution welcomes the creation of these scholarships, which will provide very important support for the selected students. On behalf of everyone at his alma mater, I thank Mr. Douville for his generosity,” said Mark Michaud, Director of Administration at McGill University’s Desautels Faculty of Management.

“This major financial contribution will allow a student to focus on his or her research and contribute to the advancement of mental health knowledge. Thank you Mr. Douville for this tremendous vote of confidence in our institution,” concluded Dr. Réjean Hébert, Dean of the School of Public Health at Université de Montréal.
