An energizing Annual General Meeting

Some of the highlights of this year’s AGM, above and beyond the friendly atmosphere and the breathtaking view of Montreal from the McCarthy Tétrault office, were the public announcement of a $ 2.6 M donation to the FGM; a look back on a very successful year, investment-wise and grant-wise; the re-election of a strong and committed board of directors; and a tribute to the late Marcel Côté, FGM founding member, as well as to two outgoing board members.

Held on May 29th in the presence of about 80 members, fund creators and partners, the FGM’s AGM presented an opportunity to reflect on the accomplishments of the FGM, its board of directors and its committees in 2013. Nine members of the board of directors were also elected or re-elected during the AGM (for the list of names, please consult the June 2nd press release) and two outgoing members, Mr. Tim Brodhead (board member 2000-2002 and 2011-2014) and Mr. Pierre L. Comtois (board member 2008-2014) were honoured for their long-time involvement.

Following the AGM, the board of directors re-elected Mr. Richard W. Pound as its Chair for a fourth consecutive year, while Mr. J. Gilles NoletMs. Kim Thomassin and Mr. Jean-Guy Gourdeau were respectively elected as Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer of the board of directors. Congratulations to all the board members and to the elected officers.

The assembly also took a moment to commemorate
the passing of Mr. Marcel Côté,
founding member and former board member and Chair of the FGM. Ms. Mercédes Benegbi, from the Thalidomide Victims Association of Canada, gave a moving testimony, remembering Mr. Côté’s generosity during his years of involvement with the Association.

We thank all off those who were present at the AGM, as it provided us with the occasion to exchange with the very people whose enthusiasm and support inspires us in our work every day. Many thanks as well to the McCarthy Tétrault Montréal team, whose generous and warm welcome made this event such a success.
