A brief overview of our year

Montréal, July 15, 2019 – Mr. Laurent McCutcheon died on July 4, at the age of 76. Mr. McCutcheon has been an exceptional activist, having given four decades of his life to defend the interests, the rights, and most importantly the dignity of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transidentity communities. As his funeral was celebrated this past Saturday, the Foundation of Greater Montreal wished to recognize his tremendous contribution to our society.
FGM was honored by his trust when, en 2014, he decided to create the Fonds Diversité sexuelle Laurent McCutcheon fund at FGM. The purpose of this fund is to support the charitable and community organizations that work on behalf of the LGBT communities, and is open to any person or organization wishing to support these communities, most notably in their quest for legal and social equality. This cause motivated Mr. McCutcheon throughout his life, and so he wished to create a permanent philanthropic vehicle to support it. We are proud to have been his partners in that process.
Laurent McCutcheon has been at the center of the progress LBGT communities have benefitted from over the years. But much remains to be done in order to reach the full recognition of the multiples realities and identities of these communties. This is why, today, we reaffirm that through the Fonds Diversité sexuelle Laurent McCutcheon fund, FGM will continue to support his life’s work.
Thank you, Laurent McCutcheon.
