A word from FGM – March 2025

The Foundation of Greater Montréal has a vision of a community that is free of poverty and discrimination, where all can realize their potential in a healthy environment, now and in the future.

This vision is our lifeblood. It drives us every day and encapsulates our commitment to all communities in Greater Montreal. Whatever the political and economic headwinds, we stay the course and reaffirm our values—justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, collaboration, listening, creation, innovation, and integrity.

This will not change. For FGM, integrity means not backing down in the face of adversity. But what does that look like in action?

First, we will continue to build on our responsible investment strategy, reduce the carbon footprint of our investments, and further align our investment practices with human rights and the rights of Indigenous peoples.

We will keep championing justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion by allocating at least half of our own grants to organizations that work with women and girls, people with disabilities, Indigenous and racialized people, immigrants and refugees, and organizations that stand up for gender and sexual diversity.

We will remain steadfast in our commitment to climate justice and to building resilient neighbourhoods and collectives. Finally, in the face of threats to our democratic institutions, we will support citizen participation, information, and science.

The world around us is changing, but our determination remains the same. We will continue to make inroads in places where philanthropy has too seldom ventured, building a just society for today and tomorrow. We call on our fellow members of the philanthropic sector and all community leaders to make the same commitment.
