It was while reflecting on the management of his estate and succession planning that Mr. René Lisi first had the idea of creating a foundation. Guided by a spirit of generosity and community sharing, he wanted to free himself from the administrative and legal constraints involved in managing a foundation, so he could focus instead on its development and on distributing grants. This led him to the Foundation of Greater Montréal, which helped him clarify his needs and define the mission and objectives of his fund.
“It’s a process that can move quickly, but one that deserves careful thought and good planning. The FGM team was incredibly open, attentive, and helpful.”
The Fondation LISI GEOFFROY Fund was thus established, in perpetuity, in December 2020.
“My estate will outlive me, and within the transparent and credible structure FGM offers, I’ll be able to contribute to and support the causes close to my heart during my lifetime. I’ve also agreed to give 10% of the amount distributed each year to support the Foundation of Greater Montréal’s community fund. FGM’s platform gives me the ideal environment to bring my philanthropic values to life, and with them, the chance to give back.”
Inspired by his deep friendship with France Geoffroy, a quadriplegic contemporary dance artist, and by his closeness to the community she was part of, Mr. Lisi decided to become personally involved following her death in April 2021. Alongside his role as a board member of the inclusive dance company Corpuscule Danse, co-founded in 2000 by France, Martine Lusignan, and Isaac Savoie, he hopes to promote and improve the inclusion of people with disabilities.

To that end, its mission will rest on three pillars: advancing research, promoting education and workplace inclusion, and showcasing the visual and performing arts created by people with disabilities and from diverse backgrounds. As Mr. Lisi points out, “there is still a great deal of work and education needed for people with disabilities to fully occupy the place that belongs to them,” and his fund intends to help contribute to this broader societal goal!
