November 20 2013 MONTREAL Gazette — A young man charged with murdering his girlfriend in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce this week was having difficulty with his emotions ahead of his first court appearance, his lawyer said on Wednesday. Michael Gero, 23 years old, appeared before a Quebec Court judge during the afternoon at the Montreal courthouse and was charged with the second-degree murder of Sherri Amanda Thomas, 19 years old. It appears to be a case of domestic violence. The goal of ‘ Red Flags’ is to reduce and eventually end the number of incidents such as the one described above.These tragic losses to society are unfortunately on the rise. Statistics state that an estimated 4 out of 10 women from the age group of 18 – 29 were victims of relationship violence. The highest increase in relationship violence has appeared within early youth in the age group of those12 to 17. This Project of AWARE will be in partnership with the following organizations: Schools in the Greater Montreal and its surrounding areas with a vision to expand the project Canada wide.
