Amal would like to request a grant from FGM for a 24 month project where Amal will employ a collaborative approach to its One on One counseling services for victims of domestic violence, Therapeutic Groups and Rebuilding Life Workshops by building on its existing community partnerships. Amal currently works with CSSS/CLSC St-Laurent, Shield of Athena Shelter and Centres d’aide aux victimes d’actes criminels (CAVAC) on client referrals especially when the case involves ethnic women. Amal also works with Batshaw on multi-cultural youth cases. The goal is to tap into community resources efficiently so that organizations work together to develop a cohesive support network for victims of domestic violence. The project will include formalizing referral and collaboration processes between our organizations. The cultural and linguistic diversity of the ethnic population served by Amal includes immigrants from South/East Asia, North/East Africa, and the Middle East. Amal is able to bridge this gap by providing services in Arabic, English, and French. Most importantly, our counsellors are knowledgeable on the cultural norms that impact family violence cases in these communities.
