Most people living with a blood cancer and in remission are 65 +. They are vulnerable to COVID-19 because of their age and because they are immunocompromised. Depression and anxiety are common responses to a cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is diagnosed in 25% of people diagnosed with a blood cancer. What’s more, certain anticancer medications may contribute to feelings of anxiety and symptoms of depression. For all those reasons, we would like to deploy a field team that will proactively call people affected by a blood cancer and over 65 years old in the Montreal area to provide them support. Our Montreal field team (2 employees, 4 volunteers) is well trained to support the community and will evaluate our constituents’ needs: If a person is isolated, we will suggest a match with one of our Peer support volunteer and will establish a schedule for follow-up calls. If a person needs direct support (food, money, etc.), we will find resources for them. The level of anxiety and distress will be evaluated and they will be referred to appropriate mental health resources and a follow-up call schedule will be established
