From March 17 to May 31, we have helped 238 different homeless women. 25% have never used our services before and are newly homeless, and 50% of the women are indigenous. Many do not have the bandwidth to search for affordable housing during the pandemic. We project that there will be far more homelessness as of July 1, as many rental tenants have not renewed their lease nor looked for new housing. Given that there is a backlog of women without housing, we must add a full-time position to provide help with apartment searches, obtaining furniture, and moves. In Fall 2021 we expect to open a emergency shelter and this project would become permanent.
