End chronic homelessness in Montréal by 2020? Yes, we can do it!
Following Montrealers' great involvement in the homeless street count (I COUNT MTL) last March, the Mouvement pour mettre fin à l’itinérance (MMFIM)—for which the Foundation of Greater Montréal is a major partner—unveiled its plan for helping 2,000 men and women in Montréal exit chronic and cyclical homelessness over the next five years. The FGM is extremely proud to be partnering with this community-based movement.

It’s an ambitious objective, but one we can achieve!

The FGM’s commitment to the community is growing even stronger
The year 2015 marked an unprecedented level of involvement by the Foundation in the community. The most noteworthy part of this involvement was certainly the launch, last October, of the new Vital Signs report at the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. Since then, the FGM has organized and hosted five discussion panels on vital issues—homelessness, early school leaving, the environment, transportation and domestic violence—with partners who are dedicated to their respective fields.

An inspiring story: the creation of the Julie Thorn Fund
The Foundation of Greater Montréal took the opportunity at the National Philanthropy Day gathering to share an inspiring story. It goes back to February 21, 2012, the day on which a 16-year-old girl named Julie Thorn died at Polyvalente Deux-Montagnes after going into cardiac arrest. Not long after this tragic event, Marie-Hélène Proulx, a student then aged 19, and Marie-Hélène Thorn, the sister of Julie, created the Julie Thorn Fund. Their objective: provide schools with automated external defibrillators (AED) and deliver training on cardiovascular resuscitation (CPR).
