The Foundation of Greater Montréal teams up with the Center for Sustainable Development

Montreal, August 26, 2021 The Foundation of Greater Montréal (FGM) and the Centre for Sustainable Development (Maison du développement durable) are today announcing a partnership in which the FGM will help enhance the Centre’s programming through the presentation of jointly created public events. The two-year agreement will enable both organizations to better carry out their respective mandates: disseminating knowledge about sustainable development and supporting the search for solutions on issues facing the Montreal community in this area.

The FGM and the Centre will collaborate, in particular, on Vital Signs of Greater Montreal, an initiative that tracks Greater Montreal’s evolution both in terms of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and in terms of quality of life. In doing so, they will contribute to the dissemination of studies focusing on various aspects of sustainable development, and will co-organize a series of themed events that will assess where we are at with regards to indicators linked to the SDGs.

"Through this partnership with the Centre, the FGM will have a unique platform for catalyzing reflection on the part of the public, and contributing to broader debate on the most pressing issues facing our community. Whether we’re talking about the ecological transition, the fight against inequalities, or issues of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion, and many others, the Centre is the ideal space for holding discussions while also reaching a wide audience. Together, we can do more to encourage the pursuit of sustainable development principles and values in Greater Montreal," noted the President and CEO of the FGM, Karel Mayrand.

"An active collaboration with the Foundation of Greater Montréal to hasten the ecological transition is something that ties into our core mandate," added Josée Duplessis, the Centre’s Executive Director. “This new partnership will strengthen the activities of our Carrefour des synergies (Synergy Crossroads), which works to support the sustainable development movement."

The first in the series of themed events will take place on September 23, as part of the launch of a new Collective Fund at the FGM. A panel will explore the current situation of women and girls in Greater Montreal, and examine the obstacles that prevent our society from achieving sex and gender equality. More details will follow.
