Kathleen Weil leaves the Foundation of Greater Montreal
On November 3, 2008, Kathleen Weil resigned as President and CEO of the Foundation of Greater Montreal (FGM), following her decision to run as a candidate in the forthcoming provincial elections. She had held this position since the beginning of the FGM in 2000.
The Board of Directors of the FGM has appointed Gaston E. Bouchard, LL.B., as Interim President and CEO. Mr. Bouchard has been serving the FGM as Director of Gift Planning since 2003 and has a long-established reputation as a leader in the planned giving sector as well as in financial, tax and estate planning in Quebec.
“On behalf of my colleagues and the very many friends of the Foundation, I would like to underline that we very much regret Kathleen Weil’s departure. She has been the heart, soul and driving force behind our community foundation. However, the Board is fully confident that the FGM management is in good hands while we pursue our search for a successor,” said Alex K. Paterson, Board Chair.
The Foundation of Greater Montreal is a charitable organization dedicated to promoting the well-being of the community. It encourages the establishment of permanent endowment funds and ensures their sound management, then redistributes the income in the form of grants to support organizations across the entire community in a variety of areas, including health, social services, arts and culture, education, and the environment.
The Foundation of Greater Montreal is a member of Community Foundations of Canada, an organization that currently includes 165 members across the country, with total assets of $2.7 billion. In 2007, these foundations granted some $176 million in support of local charitable projects.
