{"id":32232,"date":"2022-09-12T02:00:11","date_gmt":"2022-09-12T06:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fgmtl.org\/?post_type=temoignage&#038;p=32232"},"modified":"2022-09-06T13:56:52","modified_gmt":"2022-09-06T17:56:52","slug":"mikana","status":"publish","type":"temoignage","link":"https:\/\/fgmtl.org\/copieprod\/en\/our-impact\/stories-that-inspire\/mikana\/","title":{"rendered":"Mikana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"JsGRdQ\">Mikana, which means\u00a0<\/span><em><span class=\"JsGRdQ\">path<\/span><\/em><span class=\"JsGRdQ\"> in the Anishinabe language, is an Indigenous non-profit organization whose mission is to work towards social change by educating different audiences on the realities and perspectives of Indigenous peoples.\u00a0<\/span>This initiative\u00a0<span class=\"JsGRdQ\">stems from\u00a0<\/span>a desire to generate concrete action against racism and discrimination against Indigenous Peoples and contributes to breaking down the barriers between Indigenous and non-Indigenous worlds.<\/p>\n<p>The Foundation of Greater Montr\u00e9al is proud to support Mikana&rsquo;s work, through grants but also by using its services. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mikana.ca\/en\/workshops-trainings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">training sessions<\/a> and education tools offered by Mikana indeed allow FGM&rsquo;s staff members to better understand the history and current issues members of the First Peoples are living through, including those living in Greater Montreal. <a href=\"https:\/\/fgmtl.org\/copieprod\/en\/about-us\/who-we-are\/\">Click here<\/a> to learn more about the Foundation of Greater Montr\u00e9al&rsquo;s commitments towards justice, equity, diversity and inclusion, as well as towards Indigenous communities.<\/p>\n<p>Like Mikana, we believe in the transformative power of education, raising awareness, establishing structured partnerships, and nurturing dialogue for harmonious cohabitation and mutual social understanding.
