It supports agents of change with a variety of services. Among them: consultations on ecosystemic projects, accompaniment and guidance, and help for community mobilization.<\/p>\n<p>It was in fact a consultation initiative that led Foundation of Greater Montr\u00e9al to call on R\u00e9colte. Operating from 2018 to 2020, <a href=\"https:\/\/fgmtl.org\/copieprod\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Hunger-Zero-in-Montreal-Project-Presentation.pdf\">Zero Hunger in Montr\u00e9al<\/a> led to a better overall understanding of the food security ecosystem in Montr\u00e9al, thanks to knowledge sharing among the various actors, cooperation on joint actions and development of strategic roadmaps.<\/p>\n<h5>What is the \u00ab\u00a0Zero Hunger\u00a0\u00bb initiative?<\/h5>\n<p>Zero Hunger in Montr\u00e9al yielded some very clear findings. First, community organizations lack the infrastructure, and the means, to provide healthy and locally-sourced meals to the 11% of Montrealers who are suffering through food insecurity. To try to remove these obstacles, R\u00e9colte is pursuing a five-year experiment with its partners. They are developing a local and integrated Montr\u00e9al food system (SALIM \u2500 Syst\u00e8me alimentaire local et int\u00e9gr\u00e9\u2009\u00e0 Montr\u00e9al). It features a network of logistical food hubs: shared spaces, near farms and in the heart of neighbourhoods, which will allow for the storage, processing and distribution of healthy local foods, directing them to community organizations, and through them, to those in need.<\/p>\n<p>SALIM, which was developed via \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/laburbain.montreal.ca\/montreal-en-commun\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Montr\u00e9al en commun<\/a> \u2500 the new name for the Smart Cities Challenge, won by the City of Montr\u00e9al in 2019 \u2500 is a collaborative project with multiple stakeholders. It will leverage projects involving actors working to improve food security. It also represents a chance to undertake a collective effort to implement a sustainable and practical local supply system.<\/p>\n<h5>A word about Laura Howard<\/h5>\n<p>Laura Howard is R\u00e9colte\u2019s cofounder and director, business development and partnerships. She is driven by her passions for strengthening local food systems, the circular economy and social innovation.
