{"id":42938,"date":"2024-08-05T01:00:05","date_gmt":"2024-08-05T05:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fgmtl.org\/?p=42938"},"modified":"2025-07-16T13:19:12","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T17:19:12","slug":"vital-signs-on-the-philanthropy-of-black-communities-meet-the-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fgmtl.org\/copieprod\/en\/news\/blog-post\/vital-signs-on-the-philanthropy-of-black-communities-meet-the-team\/","title":{"rendered":"Vital Signs on the philanthropy of Black communities: meet the working group"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><strong>The Observatory of Black Communities in Quebec<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>To carry out the <em>Vital Signs<\/em> study on the state of philanthropy in Quebec\u2019s Black communities, the Foundation of Greater Montr\u00e9al wanted to partner with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/observatoire-des-communaut%C3%A9s-noires-du-qu%C3%A9bec\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Observatory of Black Communities in Quebec<\/a>, a specialized research group affiliated to the <a href=\"https:\/\/sdesj.org\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Socio-Economic Summit for Black Youth Development<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Observatory is engaged in the production and dissemination of information about the realities of Black communities in Quebec, examining them from a socio-economic development perspective, with a particular focus on youth.<\/p>\n<p>The members of the research team for this edition of <em>Vital Signs <\/em>are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>B\u00e9linda Bah, Director of the Observatory of Black Communities in Quebec, principal investigator;<\/li>\n<li>Kossi Mawulolo Ekouagou, research agent at the Observatory;<\/li>\n<li>James Osn\u00e9, Partnership and Development Manager at the Observatory;<\/li>\n<li>Gu\u00e9ter Port-Louis, Observatory collaborator, co-investigator;<\/li>\n<li>Lynda Rey, Observatory collaborator, co-investigator;<\/li>\n<li>Melissa Cassandre Raymond, Observatory research intern.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"cta full red cta-page\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sdesj.org\/en\/observatory-english\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">For more information about the Observatory<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Working group on philanthropy in Black communities<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The working group on philanthropy in Black communities has a mandate to work in tandem with the project team conducting the study in order to: define its objectives; set out a framework for its realization; follow it through production; and offer feedback on its preliminary findings.<\/p>\n<p>The group is composed of individuals who come from a variety of backgrounds and reflect the diversity of Black communities in Quebec. After having lived for many years in Africa and Europe, she decided to make Quebec her home more than 20 years ago. Ms. Ba worked in the community and social development field for about 15 years before moving to the philanthropic sector. A native of Trinidad and Tobago, she grew up in Montreal. She earned a Master\u2019s in Education from McGill University, and has more than 25 years of experience in coaching and customized training, through which she has made significant contributions to several spheres of activity on both a national and an international level. The holder of a Master\u2019s in Public Communication from Universit\u00e9 Laval and a Bachelor\u2019s degree in Social Communication from the Universit\u00e9 d\u2019\u00c9tat d\u2019Ha\u00efti, he has also earned the PRP designation for public relations professionals in Quebec, attributed by the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 qu\u00e9b\u00e9coise des professionnel(le)s en relations publiques (SQPRP). He has more than 15 years\u2019 experience in communications, philanthropic development and international development. In the last 13 years, she has most notably headed a professional integration program in China, and in France managed a program aiming to accompany social entrepreneurs in growing their enterprises. She has lived in Montreal since 2018. She was in charge of evaluation for 4Rs, a movement working to promote the rights of Indigenous young people, and subsequently managed strategy and operations for the Chamandy Foundation for nearly five years.<\/p>\n<h5><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/carole-muriithi-0640778b\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Carole Wawira Muriithi<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/fgmtl.org\/copieprod\/nouvelles\/billet-de-blogue\/signes-vitaux-sur-la-philanthropie-des-communautes-noires-rencontrez-lequipe\/attachment\/carole-june-26th-22-03-crop\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-42933\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-42933\" src=\"https:\/\/fgmtl.org\/copieprod\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Carole-June-26th-22-03-crop-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/h5>\n<p>Carole Wawira Muriithi is a facilitator, systems thinker, and Program Officer at Pathy Family Foundation (PFF). She has significant experience working with non-profit organizations in developing, leading, and delivering community programs. Holder of a master\u2019s degree in Human Systems Intervention from Concordia University, she has supported organizations through collaborative culture and systems change processes using an anti-oppressive, anti-racist, and equity-centred lens. The holder of a Specialized Graduate Diploma in Social Administration from Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al and a Master\u2019s in Organizational Development from the \u00c9cole nationale d\u2019administration publique, she is also a member of the Ordre des administrateurs agr\u00e9\u00e9s du Qu\u00e9bec. A seasoned manager, she has extensive experience in the social\/community development sector and in running not-for-profit organizations. Deeply concerned by the many challenges facing Black communities, she has worked to implement programs that deal with these issues. Many of her initiatives at BCHM are now recognized as having led to significant innovations. A socially engaged individual, he has most notably served as a member of the Conseil sup\u00e9rieur de l\u2019\u00e9ducation (2005-2014), Chair of the Conseil\u2019s Commission de l\u2019\u00e9ducation pr\u00e9scolaire et de l\u2019enseignement primaire (2006-2010), and President of the Association des cadres de l\u2019\u00c9cole Polytechnique de Montr\u00e9al (2003-2005). He has been on several boards of directors, including that of the YMCAs of Quebec, and has been the recipient of many honours, including the Ordre d\u2019excellence en \u00e9ducation du Qu\u00e9bec
