FGM’s Annual Report – A word from the Chair of the Board of Directors<\/h4>\n

It is with enthusiasm that I took on the role of Chair of the Board of Directors of the Foundation of Greater Montr\u00e9al in 2023, at a time when our community, and indeed the world, face immense challenges. Issues that touch on justice, equity, diversity and inclusion are finally getting the attention they deserve; people\u2019s needs are increasing as gaps resulting from economic and social inequalities widen; and the impacts of climate change and other environmental issues are impacting more and more individuals.<\/p>\n

These challenges are enormous, but they also highlight the fact that there is no better time to be involved in a community foundation like FGM. Because in order to meet these challenges, we must be able to count on, among other things, the creativity, generosity and commitment of all sectors of our community, without leaving anyone behind. This is where the Foundation, by virtue of its key position at the intersection of the philanthropic, economic, community and institutional sectors, and through its power to mobilize, exercises valuable leadership. And thanks to its fund creators, donors and all of its partner organizations, we are seeing results in our community.<\/p>\n

FGM\u2019s impact on Greater Montreal indeed goes far beyond the amount it distributes through grants, the number of funds it creates or the sum of the assets it manages. In developing and participating in innovative partnerships, in fostering the dissemination of knowledge about the community, and in speaking to a variety of audiences, the Foundation has multiple ways of supporting the actors who work towards the development of Greater Montreal and the well-being of its population. These approaches enable us to go even further, including in the necessary evolution of our own sector. Building a type of philanthropy that is for everyone and by everyone is a complex and ambitious undertaking, but one that is necessary if we are to meet the challenges of our times.<\/p>\n

In the months and years to come, the Foundation will continue to use its influence to advance its guiding values and encourage cooperation across all sectors. In particular, it will do so by taking a distinctive stand and by amplifying the voices and perspectives that will enable us to move forward collectively. It\u2019s hard work at times, but with your support, we will make sure it continues. As you read its 2023 Annual Report<\/a>, you will also see the many ways in which FGM supported our community\u2019s resilience and dynamism this year, and what we have achieved together.<\/p>\n
